White European Jesus Crucifix in the Classroom?

One of the joys of teaching theology is listening to the concerns of students. Recently, during a discussion over Christ’s crucifixion between diverse students, an inquisitive youth asked the following: “At a Catholic school as diverse as ours, why do all the crucifixes have a white European Jesus?”
